When people first hear us talk about Super Sacks, soil is usually what comes to mind.
That makes sense. Soil is one of the most common materials ordered this way. But a Super Sack can hold much more than topsoil. Depending on the project, you can order mulch, gravel, sand, decorative stone, compost, and other bulk garden materials in the same convenient format.
That can make planning a bigger yard project much easier. Instead of having several loose piles dropped on the driveway, each material stays contained until you are ready to use it.
And if you are new to ordering landscape materials, no question is a silly question. You do not need to know the difference between every soil blend or aggregate before you call us. Tell us what you are working on, and we can help you sort out what belongs where.
How Much Material Is in a Super Sack?
Each of our Super Sacks holds one cubic yard of material, which is 27 cubic feet.
The sacks are made from heavy-duty polypropylene and have a duffle top, a spout at the bottom, and corner lift loops.
One cubic yard is a volume measurement. That is important because a cubic yard of mulch and a cubic yard of gravel occupy the same amount of space, but they are very different to handle.
Mulch is light compared with stone. Gravel is dense and much heavier. If you are planning to move everything by wheelbarrow, that difference becomes obvious very quickly.
This is one reason we like to know what the whole job looks like before someone orders. The amount of material is only part of the planning. Where it is going, how far it needs to move, and what you are building all help determine the best way to order.
What Soil Can You Get in a Super Sack?
Soil is a natural fit for Super Sack delivery because many lawn and garden projects need more than a few small bags, while a loose pile may be inconvenient.
We carry several soil products for different jobs.
● Nature’s Blend is a good option for lawn levelling, filling low spots, and over-seeding. It combines black peat loam and compost with a touch of mineral soil, giving it enough body to work into uneven lawn areas.
● Premium TopDressing Mix is intended for improving soil quality over time. It combines peat loam with specialty sand and works well when you are topdressing an existing lawn and want the material to settle down toward the soil level.
● Screened Top Soil is useful for general filling and grading work. Screening removes unwanted oversized material and creates a more consistent product to work with.
● Triple Mix combines compost, manure, and peat loam. It is a richer blend suited to planting projects such as garden beds, shrubs, and trees.
A simple way to think about the choices is:
● Levelling or over-seeding a lawn: Nature’s Blend
● Improving an existing lawn over time: Premium TopDressing Mix
● General filling and grading: Screened Top Soil
● Garden beds and planting areas: Triple Mix
If you are looking at those names and still thinking, “I just need dirt,” call us. That is completely fine. Tell us what you are trying to fix or grow, and we will start there.
Yes, Mulch Comes in a Super Sack Too
Mulch is one of the Super Sack options people are often surprised to learn about.
A Super Sack of mulch gives you a full cubic yard while keeping the material contained. That can be useful when you are spreading mulch across several garden beds or when the project will take more than one afternoon.
Our Super Sack selection includes mulch products such as Black Cedar Mulch and Natural Cedar Mulch, along with other available mulch materials.
Containment becomes especially handy around a busy home. You may still need to park in the driveway. The kids may be moving bikes around. Rain may show up halfway through the weekend.
With a sack, the remaining mulch stays together instead of slowly spreading across the pavement every time someone walks past it.
It also helps when you are ordering more than one material. Mulch can stay in one sack while soil or stone stays in another. There is less chance of the edges of two loose piles getting mixed together.
Gravel, Sand and Base Aggregates
Super Sacks can also be filled with many of the heavier materials used in landscape construction.
Our current selection includes products such as:
● Granular A Gravel
● 3/4″ Crusher Run
● Limestone Screening
● High Performance Bedding
● Concrete Sand
● Brick Sand
● 3/4″ Clear Gravel
These products do different jobs, even though they may all look like some version of gravel or sand to someone seeing them for the first time.
Some materials are designed to compact and create a solid base. Others are chosen because water can move through them more easily. Sand products can also have different uses depending on the project.
This is an area where guessing can create a lot of extra work.
If you are building a walkway, preparing a base, working on drainage, or filling around a hardscape project, tell us what you are building before ordering. We can help narrow down the material that suits the job.
Moving one cubic yard of stone takes enough effort the first time. Nobody wants to move it again because the wrong product was ordered.
Decorative Stone Can Go in a Super Sack
Decorative stone works very well in a Super Sack because the individual pieces stay contained until you need them.
Our selection includes decorative products such as Black Lava Rock, White Marble, Red and Black Granite, River Rock, and Gabion Stone.
These materials are often used around garden beds, borders, buildings, and other finished landscape areas.
Decorative stone is also a good example of why multi-item Super Sack orders can be useful.
You might be rebuilding a garden area that needs soil first, mulch around one group of plants, and decorative stone in another section. You could also be working on a path that needs a base aggregate underneath before the finished surface goes down.
With separate sacks, every material has its own place while the work is happening.
That makes the project easier to understand when you are standing in the driveway deciding what comes next.
One Cubic Yard Does Not Feel the Same for Every Material
A Super Sack always holds one cubic yard, or 27 cubic feet.
What changes is the material inside.
A cubic yard of cedar mulch contains plenty of air space between the pieces. A cubic yard of gravel is packed with dense mineral material. The volume is equal, but the handling is very different.
For heavier materials, think about a few practical details before delivery:
● How close can the material be placed to the work area?
● How far will you need to move each wheelbarrow load?
● Do you have equipment available to help?
● Can the work be divided over more than one day?
These questions are especially useful for stone and aggregates.
A Super Sack keeps the material organized, but it does not make gravel light. Planning where the sack goes can save plenty of unnecessary trips across the property.
Super Sacks Work Well for Multi-Material Projects
A lot of landscaping jobs need several materials before they are finished.
A yard refresh could involve Nature’s Blend for low spots in the lawn, cedar mulch for planting beds, and decorative stone around another section of the property.
A garden renovation could need Triple Mix first, followed by mulch after the plants are in.
A walkway or hardscape project may involve one material underneath and another product around the finished area.
Ordering different products in Super Sacks helps keep those parts of the project separate.
You can work through one stage, move on to the next, and leave the remaining material contained until you are ready for it.
For homeowners who are doing the job themselves, that can be much easier than managing several loose piles at once.
When Is a Super Sack a Good Choice?
A Super Sack makes sense when you need a substantial amount of material but still want it kept together.
It can be a good option when:
● Your project will take several days
● You are ordering multiple types of landscape material
● You want to keep the driveway or work area more organized
● You need a full cubic yard rather than a few small bags
● You want each material kept separate until installation
There are also times when we would recommend another option.
If you only need enough soil for a planter or a small repair, regular bags may be simpler.
If you need several cubic yards of the same product, have plenty of open space, and are ready to move the material quickly, loose bulk delivery may make more sense.
We would rather help you choose the format that fits the job than sell you a Super Sack simply because you asked about one.
How Many Super Sacks Do You Need?
Start with the dimensions of the area you are covering.
Measure the length and width in feet, then determine how deep the material needs to be. Depth makes a big difference in the final quantity.
A light topdressing over a lawn requires far less soil than filling a new garden area. Decorative stone used as a surface covering also has different depth requirements from an aggregate being installed as part of a base.
If the calculation gets confusing, call us with your measurements.
You do not need to convert everything into cubic yards before you pick up the phone. Tell us the size of the area, what you are trying to do, and which materials you are considering.
We can help you work through it.
So, What Comes in a Super Sack?
Our Super Sack options go well beyond soil.
Depending on the project, you can order soil and compost products, mulch, sand and gravel, base aggregates, decorative stone, pebbles, and other available landscape materials.
Each Super Sack holds one cubic yard, or 27 cubic feet.
The useful question is less about what can fit in the sack and more about what your yard needs.
